It’s the third largest city in the US after New York and Los Angeles, and the view we got from the freeway was awesome.Ĭhicago is known as a city of neighbourhoods, and we were staying in Roscoe Village on the north side of the city. We were also looking forward to meeting our Chicago Air BnB host: a real life clown.Īs we drove into Chicago we started to realise that we were in for a treat. All that talk of deep dish pizza got us pretty excited. ![]() Of course we did get a little more amped for it after meeting Nick and Emily in Nashville (they are from Chicago). Most likely we were too distracted by other cool places along the way. Neither of us really had any expectations for Chicago. I nearly got run over by a mad man on a motorbike and we saw some drug pedlars on the corner of our street. The next morning we went for a run along a sweet trail right near our house. We couldn’t find anywhere decent for dinner except a really amazing ice cream shop. Indianapolis itself was pretty unexciting. I’m talking torrential rain, high winds, extremely low visibility, fallen trees, surface flooding and insane thunder that sounds like it’s gonna split the sky open. American thunderstorms really are something else and tend to take you a little by surprise. We were on the freeway which was unideal. Half way there we found ourselves slap bang in the middle of a massive thunder storm. The pizza was mouthwatering and tasted great, and my son said his meatball sandwich was one of the best he's ever had.After Nashville we headed for Chicago via Indianapolis. My son ordered a Con Polpette Sandwich (Meatballs in Tomato Sauce). For our meals my wife, daughter and I shared a Large 14" (8 slices) Pepperoni Pizza (Tomato sauce, Mozzarella, and Pepperoni). For an appetizer, we split a Garlic Bread with Cheese. The menu featured a wide variety of pizza, calzones, sandwiches, salads and appetizers.
